'Me & you in Tuscany' brings a fun romantic comedy, but without much news; g1 already seen

'Me & You in Tuscany', a film that hits Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (11), is a very honest production. It doesn't intend to show a very complex story, it brings almost all the characteristic elements of a basic romantic comedy and has the sole objective of making the audience have fun from start to finish. Fortunately, this is what happens to the delight of fans of the genre.
The film features beautiful locations, exquisite photography, a good cast and situations that have been seen before in other films, but that still work.
Just don't expect any great originality during the almost two hours of duration. At least, it counts as good (and harmless) entertainment.
The plot centers on Anna (Halle Bailey, from "The Little Mermaid"), a young woman who put aside her dream of becoming a chef after her mother's death and who lives off temporary jobs such as looking after rich people's homes in New York.
One night, she meets the Italian Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor) in a bar, who, after a few drinks, tells her details about a property he owns in the Italian region of Tuscany and which is empty.

Believing that Matteo invited her to see the place, Anna decides to travel to Italy to see the property with her own eyes and fulfill her mother's wish. What she didn't count on was that, upon arriving there, a series of confusion would make the boy's family believe that she was engaged to him.
Unable to undo the misunderstanding, Anna finds her situation becoming even more complicated after she meets Michael (Regé-Jean Page, from the series "Bridgerton"), Matteo's cousin, and falls in love with him. To make matters worse, Matteo reappears in Tuscany, which leaves her in a romantic bind.
Sandra Bullock goes to Italy
"Me & you in Tuscany" has a fun plot, but nothing innovative. Anyone who enjoys romantic comedies will notice that his story has already been told in other films of the genre.
A good example of this is "While You Were Sleeping" (1995), which helped make Sandra Bullock one of the stars of this type of film. In it, Bullock's character was confused by the family of a man who was in a coma after suffering an accident with his fiancée and ended up getting involved with his brother.

Even with this great similarity, the script written by the couple Ryan and Kristin Engle actually works well for most of the time, with good dialogue and situations that are entertaining, despite the excess of clichés.
The screenwriters only make mistakes in the construction of the protagonist, who commits slightly irresponsible acts, such as using her clients' things without asking permission or invading places to which she was not invited. Although she is shown as a good girl, the character has this deviant behavior that, even if treated lightly, can bother the viewer.
Like the script, the direction by Kat Corio (from "Marry Me") is competent, but without major shine. The filmmaker (who makes a cameo as a passenger in a group of indiscreet tourists) carries out the plot without any major surprises.
But, at least, it manages to create a good romantic atmosphere between the protagonists, has fun showing the customs of the region's inhabitants (including a curious barrel-rolling race) and makes good use of the beautiful locations, both in New York and Tuscany.
With the help of director of photography Danny Ruhlmann (from "Everyone But You", with Sydney Sweeney), Corio reinforces the beauty of the Italian region where the filming took place, which leaves the audience enchanted by what is shown on the screen.

Chemistry of wine with pasta
Even with so many outdated elements, "Me & you in Tuscany" becomes a very pleasant film to watch, mainly due to the great choice of its main couple.
Halle Bailey, who had already shown herself to be the greatest hit in the live action of "The Little Mermaid", wins over everyone with her unbeatable charisma and sense of humor. The actress seems very comfortable starring in a romantic comedy and not even her character's flaws harm her performance, which makes the audience follow her journey without ever losing interest.
Regé-Jean Page proves here his talent for playing romantic heartthrobs convincingly, just as he did when he starred in the first season of "Bridgerton". The actor manages to build good chemistry with Bailey, which makes the couple captivating with the growing involvement between the two in each scene.

Of the rest of the cast, only Aziza Scott as Claire, Anna's best friend, stands out with her fun and slightly hysterical manner, in addition to Marco Calvani as Lorenzo, a driver who becomes the protagonist's confidant during her stay in Italy, who also proves to have a good sense of humor. The other actors are correct in their roles, but nothing more than that.
"Me & you in Tuscany" is worth a good pastime, especially for romantics on duty. It won't change anyone's life, but at least it will leave a taste of satisfaction when the screening is over. Like drinking good wine or eating beautiful pasta.
