USA bombs targets in Iran after ships are attacked in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran launched retaliatory attacks against Bahrain and Kuwait in the early hours of Wednesday (8). Tehran's offensive is an immediate response to aerial bombardments carried out hours earlier by the United States against Iranian territory, after the Persian regime was accused of hitting three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Both Arab countries hit are home to Washington's military bases: Bahrain is the headquarters of the US Navy's 5th Fleet, while Kuwait serves as headquarters for American Army forces in the region. The two governments issued missile warnings to the population early in the morning.

Iran's central military command confirmed the reaction and warned that it "will respond decisively to this aggression and terrorist act" by the United States. Until this report was last updated, Iranian state media had acknowledged explosions in the Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Sirik regions, but had not released information on casualties or the extent of damage in Bahrain and Kuwait.
According to the country's Revolutionary Guard, 85 US military installations were hit in the two countries.
The new military escalation calls into question the provisional ceasefire agreement in the region, created after the war that began at the end of February. The attacks occur at a time when US President Donald Trump is scheduled in Turkey for the NATO summit.

According to Centcom, the offensive aims to impose "high costs" on Iran for attacking commercial vessels manned by civilians in one of the world's main maritime routes.
"Iran demonstrated an unjustified, dangerous aggression that represents a clear violation of the ceasefire," the American military command said in a statement.
A American source interviewed by Reuters said that the attacks targeted Iran's air defense systems, as well as drone and missile launchers.
Iranian state TV reported that several explosions were recorded in Sirik, a port city in southern Iran, close to the Strait of Hormuz. Until the last update of this report, there was no information about the cause of the explosions or possible victims.
Also according to state media, the Iranian foreign minister said that the attacks violate the ceasefire and will provoke "decisive" actions.
Earlier, the British maritime security agency UKMTO reported that three ships were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. No one was injured.
The Qatari government stated that one of the vessels hit was the oil tanker "Al Rekayyat" and blamed Iran for the attack. According to Reuters, behind the scenes, US authorities also blamed Tehran.
The attacks occurred despite the ceasefire signed between the United States and Iran after the war that began at the end of February.
Despite the new escalation, negotiations continue. An American government official told Reuters that representatives of the two countries continue to act "in good faith" to try to reach a definitive peace agreement.
Safety of navigation and control over the Strait of Hormuz is one of the main points of friction in negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Sanctions
After the attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States once again imposed sanctions on Iran's oil sector.

The American government on Tuesday revoked a license that had temporarily suspended restrictions on Iranian oil exports.
The exemption, announced in June as part of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries, allowed Tehran to produce, sell and deliver crude oil and derivatives until August 21.
In response, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the decision and stated that the measure violates the Islamabad Memorandum, signed to end the war between the two countries.
Tehran also held Washington responsible for the consequences of the decision and said it will adopt "all necessary measures" to protect its interests and national security.
