A report prepared by Villela & Associados Auditoria e Consultoria, a company hired by Corinthians vice-president Armando Mendonça, broadly contests the conclusions of the internal audit that supported the manager's request for precautionary removal and the criminal complaint filed by the São Paulo Public Ministry for alleged misappropriation of sports materials supplied by Nike to the club.

The document, completed on May 2, 2026 and consisting of 64 pages, was produced under the form of "Previously Agreed Procedures", with the objective of technical analysis of the internal report prepared by the Corinthians Technology department, at the request of president Osmar Stabile, on the management of the supplier's sporting equipment stocks.

Across 39 questions, the consultancy states that the work carried out internally by the club presents methodological flaws, lack of supporting documentation, deficiencies in the traceability of information and insufficient technical elements to support individual responsibilities. The report was presented by Armando Mendonça to the Corinthians board before the announcement of his 30-day leave from office.

Criticisms of the internal audit methodology

One of the main conclusions of the report is that the internal audit did not fully comply with the requirements set out in the Brazilian Accounting Standards for internal audit work. According to the consultancy, the Corinthians document presents objectives, but does not define the extent of the work carried out, nor does it inform the universe audited or the representativeness of the samples analyzed.

Villela & Associados also states that the methodology described by the club is restricted to the presentation of generic concepts, without detailing sampling criteria, materiality, inventory, risk assessment, cut-off tests or other procedures normally required in audits of this nature.

The opinion also questions the way in which testimonies and interviews were used to support conclusions. According to the analysis, the statements reproduced in the internal report would not be accompanied by signed minutes, formalized interview terms or references to working papers that would allow verifying their authenticity and validity as audit evidence.

Contest over the 131 items attributed to the leader

The most sensitive point in the report refers to the internal audit's conclusion that Armando Mendonça had removed 131 sporting items between June and October 2025.

After examining the requests for materials used by the club's audit, the consultancy claims to have identified inconsistencies in the attribution of these products to the vice-president.

According to the analysis, nine of the twenty requests considered by the audit did not have Armando as the final recipient of the materials, in addition to the existence of duplicate records.

According to the document, of the 131 items attributed to the manager, 97 would have been destined for third parties or would correspond to internal movements between sectors of the club, representing around 74% of the total identified by internal audit.

The consultancy details that these materials would include transfers between warehouses, products intended for the São Paulo Football Federation, items used by members of the security team, a suitcase given to the legal director, materials donated to former athletes and shirts provided to club sponsors.

Based on this review, the report concludes that the information used by internal audit to assign the 131 items to the vice president would be inconsistent.

NFL Jerseys

The document also addresses the commemorative shirts produced for the NFL event held in partnership with Corinthians.

According to the consultancy, an exchange of emails analyzed indicates that the pieces would be intended for employees involved in organizing the event. Villela states that this information would not have been considered by internal audit when evaluating the movement of these materials.

Nike Materials Responsibility

Another point of the technical defense presented in the report is the allegation that there is no statutory, normative or administrative instrument that gives the vice-president operational responsibility for the stocks of sporting goods or the Corinthians warehouse.

The consultancy maintains that, in accordance with the club's organizational chart and articles 113 and 114 of the black and white statute, the vice-presidency has institutional functions and replaces the president, without direct participation in activities related to logistics, storage, receipt or distribution of sports equipment.

The report also states that the duties linked to inventory control, warehouse and supply of materials are linked to the administrative and operational areas of the club, without hierarchical subordination to the vice-president.

Villela & Associados also rejects the possibility of holding Armando Mendonça responsible for alleged unreleased invoices. According to the document, Corinthians' accounting and tax processes are conducted by specific departments and submitted annually to independent external audits.

The consultancy highlights that the reports of the independent audits of the 2024 and 2025 financial statements did not highlight any reservations related to the omission of invoices for sports materials, an argument used to support the absence of technical grounds for holding the director directly responsible.

At the end of the procedures, Villela & Associados concludes that Corinthians' internal report does not present sufficient documentary evidence to demonstrate the direct participation, interference or decision-making power of Armando Mendonça over the management of Nike materials. The consultancy claims to have found no technical elements capable of establishing a causal link between the irregularities highlighted by the internal audit and acts carried out by the vice-president.

Criminal complaint and temporary leave from position

Last Wednesday (3), the Public Prosecutor's Office criminally charged Armando Mendonça for the alleged crimes of qualified misappropriation, attempted misappropriation, qualified theft through abuse of trust and coercion during the process. According to the accusation, based on Corinthians' internal audit and additional investigations, the director allegedly appropriated 131 Nike sports items belonging to the club between June and October 2025.

The MP also states that Armando tried to embarrass those responsible for internal auditing through extrajudicial notifications sent after the investigations began, in addition to citing a telephone recording attached to the case files as evidence.

In his testimony, the vice president admitted having removed part of the materials, but stated that the products were intended for institutional actions and denied any irregularity.

In addition to opening criminal proceedings, the prosecution requested precautionary measures, including the temporary removal of the leader from Corinthians staff. At the same time, associates and advisors filed a request for immediate precautionary removal. Given the repercussion of the case, Armando announced a 30-day leave from his position.

In a statement, the director denied any involvement in misappropriation of materials, stating that some of the items never left the club and that the rest were distributed in a regular and documented manner. Armando also stated that he is being persecuted for reporting irregularities related to the VaideBet case and stated that his leave does not represent an admission of guilt, but a measure to preserve his family and avoid further strain on Corinthians.
