The two pilots of the United States helicopter downed near the Strait of Hormuz were rescued by an unmanned drone boat, the Central Command of the North American Army revealed this Tuesday (9).
The aircraft was shot down by Iran, according to Donald Trump. The US president also said that the US "will need to respond" to the Iranian attack. According to the website Axios, the helicopter was hit by an Iranian drone.

The AH-64 Apache helicopter was operating in the Strait of Hormuz region when it crashed at around 6:30 pm on Monday (Brasília time), according to the Army's Central Command of the USA (Centcom).
The two pilots were rescued near the coast of Oman in stable condition about two hours after the incident, according to Captain Tim Hawkins, Centcom spokesman. Hawkins also said that the soldiers were located by an unmanned drone boat, and the rescue took place in the water.

This was the first operation of its kind carried out by the US Armed Forces, a US military official told CBS News.
Hawkins did not give further details about the drone boat model used in the rescue, only that it is about seven meters long. Centcom said the military equipment belongs to the US Navy's 5th Fleet Task Force. According to the ministry, the operation took place in coordination with the US Air Force.
The cause of the helicopter crash is under investigation, according to the US Army. This would have been the first Apache helicopter lost by the US during the war in the Middle East, which has been ongoing since February 28. Previously, the US army suffered drone losses in the region.
