Oil prices soar with uncertainty about navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) reported this Wednesday (8) that approximately 6 thousand sailors remain stranded in the Persian Gulf. In a statement, the UN agency responsible for security at sea condemned the resumption of hostilities in the region and in the Strait of Hormuz.

"These attacks only worsen the fear, uncertainty and psychological suffering already experienced by the approximately 6 thousand sailors who remain trapped on board ships, unable to leave the Gulf safely", said IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
He also asked the various actors involved to "avoid exposing sailors to unnecessary dangers by having their ships transit through the strait."
The statements were made shortly after United States President Donald Trump declared the end of the ceasefire with Iran, following intense airstrikes between the two sides, including actions against merchant ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict was triggered on February 28, when the US and Israel launched attacks against the Iran. In response, Tehran blocked navigation through the strait. The United States reacted by imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
After the signing, on June 17, of the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington to end the war, crossings resumed at a more constant pace, although still well below that recorded before the conflict.

Subsequently, the IMO launched a withdrawal plan for the 11,000 sailors on board 600 ships who remained trapped in the region. The operation, according to the organization, should take several weeks.
At the end of June, the plan had already allowed the departure of 115 ships with 2,500 sailors.
Currently, Tehran authorizes only one navigation route along its coast and, despite opposition from the United States, rules out any return to the pre-conflict scenario, when passage through the strait was free.
