The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is being investigated by the Federal Department of Investigation (FBI) in the midst of the World Cup. Authorities are investigating whether financial transactions carried out on American soil during the administration of President Claudio Tapia and Treasurer Pablo Toviggino could constitute crimes such as money laundering, embezzlement and bank fraud.
At the center of the investigation is the company TourProdEnter LLC, based in Florida and owned by businessman Javier Faroni. The company was responsible for managing the collection of international contracts signed by AFA with sponsors and other commercial partners.
Authorities seek to track the flow of resources managed by Faroni and his wife, Erica Gillette, through the United States financial system. Among the contracts analyzed are a US$60 million deal with Adidas and another US$40 million deal with Warner.
According to an investigation by the Argentine newspaper La Nación, the company moved at least US$260 million in AFA revenues through five large American banks - Citibank, JPMorgan, Bank of America, Synovus and PNC Bank.
The main point of attention for the FBI is that approximately US$57 million of this total was transferred to companies and beneficiaries without clear economic justification or commercial purpose identifiable in the documents. According to the investigation, only part of the funds would have been allocated to AFA's operational costs.
There are suspicions that some of these companies are shell companies. According to the documents analyzed by La Nación, they did not provide any type of service and were controlled by people who were listed as beneficiaries of social assistance programs in Argentina. Investigators also identified payments to two companies linked to Toviggino, as well as transfers to his partner, who is a relative of Manuel Valdés, appointed as the "spiritual guide" of the Argentine National Team.

The investigations gained momentum in 2025 and are led by federal prosecutors Patrick Gushue, Christopher Ting and Michael Berger. FBI agents and prosecutors specializing in financial crimes and public integrity have already begun collecting statements.
Recently, businessman Guillermo Tofoni, CEO of World Eleven, gave a statement to the authorities. The company is a commercial partner of AFA and has a license from FIFA to organize international friendlies for the Argentine National Team. The United States Department of Justice is also considering summoning former members of Argentine President Javier Milei's government who supervised or had access to federation information in recent years.
To date, the investigation remains in the preliminary phase in the United States, and no formal accusations or indictments have been filed against AFA or its directors. The entity has not yet officially commented on the case.
