In light of the heat wave in France, two of the country's main app delivery platforms, Uber Eats and Deliveroo, announced on Wednesday (8) that they will suspend deliveries in regions where temperatures reach extreme levels.

The measure, adopted after demands from the sector, seeks to protect delivery drivers and will only be applied in departments that eventually go on red alert.
"This decision represents an important step, and I ask restaurant partners to show solidarity by providing these workers with access to water and air-conditioned areas", declared the Minister of Labor, Jean-Pierre Farandou.
Last week, Farandou had contacted the two delivery companies, which is mainly done by bicycle, directing them to take measures to protect workers from extreme heat.

In response to the request, this Wednesday, Uber Eats and Deliveroo indicated that they would suspend deliveries to departments on red heat wave alert (the highest), between 2pm and 6pm.
The measure has a preventive nature, as no area of the country is currently within this classification, but 67 departments have been placed under orange alert (one below red).
Météo-France, the national meteorological agency, predicts "a severe and prolonged heat wave", which will probably last "until the end of the month, or beyond".
This intense heat wave is the third in less than two months in France. The first came early at the end of May, and the second, at the end of June. These phenomena make outdoor work, such as delivery work, particularly vulnerable to high temperatures.
Disagreements between unions The measure was seen as controversial among labor unions. For Ludovic Rioux, from the CGT trade union, the largest in France, the decision "makes these workers, already in a precarious situation, even more vulnerable" due to the lack of a replacement income.
At the end of June, Paris City Hall sent a letter to delivery platforms requesting the implementation of a minimum wage when weather conditions require a reduction or suspension of activities.
Fabian Tosolini, representative of the Union-Indépendants union, praised the decision, but requested that delivery zones and order weights are reduced between noon and 2pm, peak time for most demands.
