The Gramado Film Festival announced this Wednesday (8) the six Brazilian fiction feature films competing for awards in the competitive exhibition of its 54th edition. The curatorship is signed by actresses Ana Flavia Cavalcanti and Camila Morgado and by journalist, professor and film critic Marcos Santuario. All selected productions are new in Brazil.

The opening film will be "Antarctica", starring Marina Ruy Barbosa, Lázaro Ramos, Andrea Beltrão and Leandra Leal. The production portrays a group of scientists and military personnel who prepare to face the harsh winter at a Brazilian base in the southernmost point of the planet. Produced by the Estúdios Globo Film Center, the film is confirmed for release in theaters on September 17th.

Another highlight of the event is "Chorão: Só os Loucos Sabem", directed by Hugo Prata and Felipe Novaes. The production delves into the life of the rapper who led the band Charlie Brown Jr. in the city of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. Among the episodes portrayed is his meeting with Graziela, who inspired much of his compositions. The singer is played by actor José Loreto and also has Nanda Marques in the cast.

In this edition, the organization also announced that actor, director and screenwriter Marcos Caruso, 74, will be honored. He will receive the Cidade de Gramado Trophy, which recognizes personalities linked to the festival, whose performance contributed to the projection of the event and the region. Caruso stood out when playing characters like Leleco in "Avenida Brasil" and Carlão in "Mulheres Apaixonadas".

The Gramado Film Festival takes place annually in Serra Gaúcha, establishing Gramado as one of the most sought after tourist destinations in all of Brazil. Throughout its history, the event has followed different phases of national cinema, becoming a pioneer and reference in holding events of this kind across the country. In addition to celebrating Brazilian and Gaucho production, the event also includes in its program a competitive exhibition of Ibero-American films since 1992. The Oscarito, Eduardo Abelin, Kikito de Cristal and Cidade de Gramado trophies pay tribute to actors, filmmakers and personalities linked to cinema.
