Tom Holland opens up about the behind-the-scenes of "The Odyssey" and reveals confusion

Tom Holland, 30, revealed that he was nervous during the first day of filming "The Odyssey", the new film directed by Christopher Nolan.

The actor said that he convinced himself that he was acting badly, until he discovered that the repeated interruptions in filming were not related to his performance, but rather to the technical conditions of the IMAX cameras.

Tom made the comments during a press conference on the website Fandango, alongside Christopher, and his co-stars Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon.

"Working with an IMAX camera for the first time is an experience in itself," he began.

Speaking directly to the director, he added: "It's unlike anything I've ever seen before, I didn't even know it only filmed for three minutes."

The star revealed that he became increasingly anxious each time filming stopped: "I remember you [Nolan] kept cutting, and I was standing there with Jon [Bernthal, co-star] thinking, 'Why does he keep cutting? Why does he keep doing that?'"

"And I thought: 'Doesn't he like what we're doing? What's going on?'"

Tom said that he later discovered that there was a very simple explanation: "I remember it was George Cottle [stunt coordinator] who told me: 'No, no, there's only three minutes in the film'. And I thought: 'Ah, thank God'."

The actor also described the production as a "sea of unknown waters" and said that Christopher's encouragement helped calm his nervousness.

"We finished the day, you gave me a hug and a pat on the back, and it wasn't until I left the set that I thought, 'Oh, I can do this. I can swim in these waters.'"

"The Odyssey" is an adaptation of Homer's Greek epic poem, which follows Odysseus (or Odysseus) trying to return home after the Trojan War.

Tom plays Telemachus, son of Odysseus and Penelope, played by Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway.

The film hits theaters on July 16th and marks Christopher Nolan's first feature since "Oppenheimer."
