The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Wednesday morning that he believes that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran is "over", following the series of attacks recorded in the region.

"It's a waste of time negotiating with them," Trump said during the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) summit.

It was the clearest indication yet that the agreement signed by the American president with Tehran has practically collapsed. The statements came after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have launched attacks against US military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait, in response to US bombings against Iranian territory.

Trump also called Iran "evil, sick people" and said the preliminary agreement with Tehran is on the verge of collapse.

When opening the NATO summit in Turkey, the president classified the country as "dirty players" for attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which, according to him, represents a violation of the ceasefire.

Trump once again said that the United States is "wasting time" when negotiating with Iran and said he preferred to "do our job" rather than insist on the diplomatic route.

"We have to eliminate this cancer, this cancer," he said. "And do you know what to do? You have to cut the cancer early. That's how I see it."

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Secretary-General Mark Rutte has backed the latest US strikes against Iran. Speaking to journalists ahead of the alliance's summit in Ankara, he said military action was "absolutely necessary."

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry in a new statement said responsibility for the latest escalation of hostilities lies with the United States and also accused Washington of "breaking agreements."

According to the Iranian government, US attacks on southern Iran, the decision to reimpose sanctions on Iranian oil and ongoing fighting in Lebanon have "rendered ineffective important and fundamental parts" of the agreement to end the war.

The United States stated that the attacks carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, as well as the sanctions, were "punishment" for recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
