Trump calls Iran "evil, sick people" after series of attacks in Gulf

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, classified Iran this Wednesday (8) as "evil and sick people", while the preliminary agreement signed between Washington and Tehran shows signs of being on the verge of collapse.

When opening the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) summit in Turkey, Trump called the country "dirty players" for attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which he said represented a violation of the ceasefire.

The statements were made after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have launched attacks against United States military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait, in response to American bombings against Iranian territory.

Trump stated that the United States is "wasting time" when talking to Iran and said he preferred to "do our job" instead of insisting on the diplomatic route.

"We have to eliminate this cancer, this cancer," he said. "And do you know what to do? You have to cut the cancer early. That's how I see it."

Earlier, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte supported the United States' latest attacks against Iran. Speaking to journalists ahead of the alliance's summit in Ankara on Wednesday (8), he stated that military action was "absolutely necessary."

"When there is a ceasefire and Iran is basically violating it, we saw what happened yesterday with the attacks on ships, I think it is completely crucial that the United States reacts firmly," Rutte said.

Iran's main negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who also holds the position of president of Parliament, listed the main violations of the ceasefire agreement by the United States following an exchange of attacks between the countries.

Iran's representative also mentions that non-compliance with the agreement by the US includes the "reestablishment of sanctions on oil, attacks on southern Iran and the continuation of Zionist aggression".
