Javier Aguirre, Mexico's coach, was pleased with the result of his debut at the World Cup. The host team beat South Africa 2-0 this Thursday (11), at the Azteca Stadium, in the country's capital. However, the coach understands that there are aspects of the game that the team needs to improve.


"We didn't play well in the first half, but it could easily have been 3-0. They only had one attempt on goal, we were superior, but the score didn't reflect that. We missed opportunities and we got complicated. It gave the impression that we relaxed and weren't vertical, but it was the first game. It's good, but it can and we must improve," said Aguirre.


The Mexicans are currently leading Group A, with three points won. South Korea and Czechia still face each other this Thursday, at 11pm (Brasília time), and could change the outlook of the bracket.

Mexico returns to play in the World Cup against the South Koreans, while the South Africans face the Czechs. Both matches will take place next Thursday (18).
