GAESF/MPRJ (Specialized Action Group for the Defense of Integrity and Suppression of Tax Evasion) carries out, this Thursday (9), an operation against a scheme of diversion of public resources at IRM (Rio Metrópole Institute).


The action seeks to comply with six arrest warrants and nine search and seizure warrants in the capital, in São Gonçalo and Teresópolis.


In total, 11 people were charged with the crimes of criminal organization, passive corruption, bid fraud and money laundering. According to the Public Ministry, the group had diverted R$86.28 million through contracts signed between 2022 and 2026.

Among the main targets of the operation are:


- Davi Perini Vermelho, known as "Didê", president of the IRM and former president of the Chamber of São João de Meriti, appointed as leader of the scheme; IRM, accused of acting as an organizer of expenses and of controlling the group responsible for escorting the amounts withdrawn in cash;
- Marcelo Lopes da Silva, State attorney and then head of the institute's Attorney General's Office, investigated for issuing opinions that, according to the MPRJ, gave legal support to the hiring and irregular readjustment of contracts.
