Novak Djokovic secured a place in the Wimbledon semifinals for the eighth consecutive edition after beating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 7/6 (10-8), 3/6, 6/3, 6/7 (4-7) and 7/6 (10-4), this Tuesday (7).

The 5:15-minute battle was the longest quarter-final match in British Grand Slam history. Now, the Serb will face the current champion, Jannik Sinner, in one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament.

Seed number seven, Djokovic laughed at the wasted opportunities in the long tiebreak of the first set. In the end, however, it was he who came out smiling, when Auger-Aliassime volleyed wide and delivered a partial that he came very close to winning with ease.

In the second set, a double fault from Djokovic gave the Canadian the break that opened up a 5-3 lead. Auger-Aliassime remained calm in the next game, confirmed the serve and tied the match. Shortly afterwards, at around 7:40 pm local time, the roof of the Central Court was closed.

The interruption provoked complaints from Djokovic, but the Serb quickly resumed his concentration. With more precise strikes in the third set, he managed to break in the sixth game and began to control the match better, once again taking the lead in the confrontation.

Djokovic overcomes Auger-Aliassime's reaction
Auger-Aliassime lost the first service game of the fourth set and let his frustration show when he hit the chair with his racket. Despite this, he reacted, raised his level of performance and took the partial decision to the tiebreak, where he won to force the fifth set.

At the decisive moment, Djokovic made all his experience count. The Serb controlled the important points better, won the tiebreaker 10-4 and confirmed his qualification for another semi-final at the All England Club.

At the end of the match, Djokovic received a long round of applause from the Central Court audience, who watched a duel of high technical level and a lot of emotion over five sets. Now, the Serb will face Italian Jannik Sinner in search of a place in the Wimbledon final.
