Corinthians ended the initial phase in eighth place with 29 points - eight wins, five draws and five defeats - 31 goals scored and 25 conceded. The rival, in turn, was the leader with 44 points. To Corinthians TV, midfielder Gui Amorim, who has one goal and four assists in 13 games this season, commented on his expectations for the classic: "We had a very good and intense week of training focused on this game. The group is very confident that we will do our best to honor the Corinthians shirt in the Derby and bring a great result for the return trip", he said.

Corinthians returned to compete in the knockout stages of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship for the first time since 2023, as, in the last two seasons, they fought at the bottom of the league table, adding 15 and 20 points, respectively.

At 18 years of age, Gui Amorim is seen as one of the main promises of Corinthians' youth categories. The young man had been training more frequently among the professionals since the beginning of the season and with the Under-20s in 2026, one goal and four assists in 14 matches. Last year, he was the Under-17's main player, scoring 20 goals and 15 assists in 43 games.

In April, the midfielder suffered a knee injury and was sidelined until the final stretch of May. Last year, after the Kauê Furquim case, which saw the national termination fine paid by Grupo City to work in Bahia, Timão promoted a salary increase in addition to the increase in fines in its contract. He recently extended his contract with Alvinegro until December 2028, with the possibility of extension until 2030.
