US headquarters will offer free load of World Cup tickets

A total of 770 free World Cup tickets were made available to New Jersey residents for games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The New York and New Jersey organizing committee confirmed the initiative this Tuesday (9), which was made possible thanks to donations from partners Uber and Hackensack Meridian Health.

Tickets will be distributed across seven matches, with the exception of the final on July 19, with 500 going to youth soccer clubs and families of members of the New Jersey National Guard currently on duty.

The rest will be given to Hackensack hospital patients participating in the Make-A-Wish program and Bergen County first responders.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill helped make this possible. The news follows last month's announcement that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani had secured 1,000 tickets at $50 each for New York residents.

"We're excited to welcome the world to the Garden State for the World Cup starting this week and to be at the center of the festivities, but first and foremost we want the experience to be accessible and affordable for as many New Jerseyans as possible," Sherrill said, according to The Athletic.

"I will always fight to ensure that no New Jersey resident is left behind." Alex Lasry, CEO of the organizing committee, thanked everyone who made the free ticket distribution possible.

"I would like to thank the Governor for her leadership in ensuring that hundreds of New Jersey residents have the incredible opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-generation moment," Lasry said. "And I'd like to thank Uber and Hackensack Meridian Health for stepping up to help us deliver these tickets."

The 770 tickets are non-transferable to avoid resale and exchange. The first World Cup match at MetLife Stadium will be between Brazil and Morocco on Saturday night at 6pm (Brasília time).
