Central Bank reports Pix data leak through Maranhão PC

An incident involving improper consultations of registration data linked to Pix keys through a system used in an institutional environment was identified by the PC-MA (Maranhão Civil Police).

In preliminary checks, it was pointed out that there was irregular use of access credentials, which made unauthorized consultations possible.

PC-MA states that 828 Pix keys were identified and related to the incident. The information accessed was exclusively registration data, linked to the keys, such as names, CPF, banking institution and date of creation of the key.

It was also clarified by the PC that there was no access to passwords, balances, statements, transactions or other information that allows banking operations or access to accounts, as the identified data does not allow financial transactions.

The corporation informs that, to date, accounts linked to Maranhão have not been identified in the records related to the incident, however, containment and security measures were taken as soon as the fact was identified, including technical analysis of system records, preservation of evidence and communication to the competent bodies, such as the BC (Central Bank).

Administrative procedures were also initiated by the police to investigate the case and are still ongoing.

The Central Bank declared in an official statement that the necessary actions in the case are being taken and that the Civil Police of Maranhão will inform, exclusively on its official website, the channel for the population to consult the exposed data.

It also reports that the BC nor other financial institutions will use means of communication with the affected people.

Even if there is no risk of movement, police agents advise the population to pay extra attention to contact made by strangers via telephone and other means of communication, avoiding the sharing of codes, passwords or bank details. It is also reinforced that PC-MA does not request this data.
