Zinho atualiza estado de saúde de Parreira: "Estável, mas não dos melhores"

Former player and commentator Zinho commented this Wednesday (17) on the health status of Carlos Alberto Parreira, who is admitted to Hospital Samaritano, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.

During the press conference of full-back Danilo, from the Brazilian team, at the 2026 World Cup, Zinho stated that he spoke with Vanessa Parreira, daughter of the world champion coach with Brazil in 1994.

According to Zinho, Parreira is in stable condition, but the scenario still requires attention. "Stable, but not the best", he stated at the time.

Parreira's hospitalization was confirmed this Tuesday. So far, no details have been released about the reason for hospitalization nor an updated medical report on the former coach's health status.

At 83 years old, Parreira is one of the most successful names in the history of Brazilian football. He led the Brazilian team to win their fourth world championship, at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, and also participated in other editions of the tournament throughout his career.

The former coach is under medical care at Hospital Samaritano, located in Barra da Tijuca, in the west of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Until the publication of this report, the family had not released any new information about his recovery.

Hodgkin's lymphoma
In 2024, Parreira was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system, a group made up of organs and tissues that produce the cells responsible for immunity and vessels that carry cells through the body.

The characteristic of the disease is that it spreads in an orderly manner, from one group of lymph nodes to another. Expansion occurs through lymphatic vessels. The disease arises when a lymphocyte (the body's defense cell), usually type B, transforms into a malignant cell, which is capable of multiplying and spreading.
