Harry Kane confirms golf match with Trump: "A surreal experience"
Harry Kane, England captain, confirmed that he has played golf with United States President Donald Trump. The striker classified the experience as "surreal" and praised the president's level in the sport.
Earlier this week, Trump had told reporters that he played a game of golf with Kane, describing the English striker as a great football player and also a good golfer.
In an interview given this Friday, on the eve of the match between England and Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Kane confirmed that the meeting took place in Palm Beach, Florida, around a year and a half ago.
"I played well, to be honest," Kane told reporters in Miami. "He invited me to play when I was in Palm Beach. So when the president invites you somewhere..."
The English number 9 said the experience was remarkable.
"It was a pretty surreal experience just meeting him and obviously playing golf with him. To be honest, he plays really well. I hope I can play as well as him when I'm his age. It was a unique experience and I was very grateful for the invitation," he added.
After England's 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16 of the World Cup, Trump praised Kane in a post on the Truth Social platform.
"Harry Kane, from England, is a GREAT player!!!", wrote the president.
The following day, Trump publicly revealed that the two had previously played golf together.
"I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I really like him. He's a good golfer. He's really excellent," he declared.
