Zero possibility of the PP not supporting Flávio, says Derrite to CNN
The former Secretary of Public Security of the State of São Paulo and pre-candidate for the Senate Guilherme Derrite (PP) minimized, in an interview with CNN Brasil this Friday (12), the chances of his party not supporting the pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
"The sooner I work as a candidate for the Senate, the better. I went to the Progressistas party on the condition of unconditionally supporting Flávio Bolsonaro in this endeavor of his", said Derrite.
The relationship between PP (Progressive Party) and PL (Liberal Party) shook after the operations launched by the PF (Federal Police) against senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), national president of the party.
The party agreed to nominate the vice-presidential vacancy on Flávio's ticket, creating an agreement that would give the PL free TV time during electoral hours equivalent to twice that of President Lula's (PT) coalition.
In May, during an interview with CNN Brasil, Flávio Bolsonaro ruled out the possibility of having Ciro Nogueira as vice-president on his ticket.
"In terms of vice, it's speculation. In an interview back then, I commented more in terms of courtesy towards him, especially because this will happen later, at conventions", he explained at the time.
Before migrating to his current party, Derrite was a member of the PL, where he was elected federal deputy in 2022. He negotiated his departure so that the party would not launch two candidates for the Upper House. For Derrite, the ideal for this year's dispute would be to have "two candidates on the right".
"Remembering that this first vacancy was addressed to Eduardo Bolsonaro, he and I were in the PL and we couldn't have both of us running for the Senate for the same party."
Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) lost his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies for not attending ⅓ of the House's ordinary sessions, with 59 accumulated absences. However, Eduardo did not lose his political rights.
Despite the possibility of entering the dispute, it was up to the former deputy to choose the PL's name in the Senate race. The announcement by André do Prado, president of Alesp (Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo), was made at the beginning of May.
Despite being without the starting position, CNN Brasil showed that the PL plans to launch Eduardo as a substitute in a scenario in which his brother Flávio Bolsonaro wins the elections in October this year and becomes president of the Republic.
