Zendaya's mother regrets the end of "Euphoria": "It made me sad"

Spoiler alert: the following text contains spoilers for the 3rd season of the series "Euphoria"

Actress Zendaya's mother, Claire Stoemer, 62, commented on the tragic ending of the character Rue, played by her daughter. After the last episode of the series aired last Sunday (31), the teacher posted a brief message on her social media about her opinion. She stated that she would keep her thoughts to herself, but expressed displeasure.

"Lots of messages in my DM about last night's episode. I'll keep my thoughts to myself," she wrote. "It definitely made me sad... And [it provoked] other emotions too. But I'll stop here...".

The last episode was marked by the protagonist's death from an overdose, after an attempt at redemption throughout the season. After battling drug addiction, Rue suffered an accidental fentanyl overdose.

Sam Levinson, creator and screenwriter of the series "Euphoria", said that he had written a different trajectory for the protagonist at the end of the 3rd season. In an interview with Popcast, from The New York Times, Levinson said that the death of Angus Cloud - Fezco in the series - was the main aggravating factor for the change.

He explained that the fentanyl-related overdose, the cause of Rue's death in the third season and the actor's death in 2023, made him want to show the real consequences of drug consumption, without romanticization. Levinson stated that "most people don't get a second chance" and that "fentanyl can take you out in an instant."
