Xamã is honored by the RJ Chamber for work with cultural impact

A ceremony held in the plenary session of the Rio de Janeiro Chamber this Friday (22) granted the title of Meritorious Citizen to the singer, composer and actor Xamã.

The honor celebrates the trajectory and representation of the artist born in Sepetiba, west of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

Life before fame

Accompanied by his mother, Dona Sônia, Xamã recalled the beginning of his career as an artist, revisiting episodes that marked his life before the spotlight - such as when, at the age of 12, he won a poetry competition.

He joked that, although he expected to win a football medal, he ended up winning for his words. "My whole life has been like this, through rhyme, through music," he said.

In gratitude to the family and friends present, Xamã reinforced the encouragement from the beginning of his career. "My mother, my family, my friends have always given me the strength to continue. They have always validated me a lot. If the people at home support you, it is easier", he declared. He also made a point of mentioning Professor Teresa Nice as an extremely important figure in his initial training.

The artist took advantage of the tribute to demand greater public investment in social areas. "We need more opportunities for young people, more education," he said. "Sometimes students need more than an hour to get to where they study. For me it was difficult to make it happen. I hope there are more opportunities for these young people, so that more artists emerge", said the rapper, known for encouraging socio-cultural projects.
