"Worst possible time to act", says Flávio about US tariffs

In the United States, senator and pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) spoke again about the impact of extra 25% tariffs on Brazilian products this Tuesday (7), during a public hearing in Washington (USA).

According to the parliamentarian, "imposing tariffs before elections is not good". He further added that "the 25% tariffs penalize the entire Brazilian people - except precisely the authorities responsible for these decisions."

90 days before the Brazilian presidential election, Flávio said that imposing tariffs at this time "would be difficult to reverse - rewarding those who are responsible for the actions in question and punishing those who have borne their consequences - would be the worst possible time to act", continued Flávio.

The hearing, organized by the USTR, an acronym in English for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the body that conducts the open trade investigation against Brazil, takes place to discuss the possibility of imposing an extra 25% tariff on Brazilian products.

Flávio participates after sending an 86-page document to the United States authorities. In the material, he requests the suspension of the so-called tariff and asks that Pix not be included in the trade dispute between the two countries.

"Pix does not compete with American institutions"
In a five-minute speech, Flávio also spoke about Pix - a payment method that is cited as one of the reasons for the recommendation of 25% taxation on Brazilian imports.

According to Flávio, "Pix is not a problem to be fixed. It is a solution. It expanded financial inclusion by bringing millions of Brazilians - especially the poorest - into the formal economy. This advance also directly benefited American companies, as the volume of transactions processed by payment cards issued by United States brands continued to grow in parallel with the wide adoption of PIX, since these companies provide services that complement each other, and do not compete with the Brazilian payment system snapshots."

The senator also highlighted that Pix "does not compete with American payment institutions".
