Understand the agreement between the US and Iran
The United States and Iran announced a peace agreement to end almost four months of conflict.
The understanding was confirmed by US President Donald Trump, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian authorities.
According to the announcement, the parties agreed to a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also reported that he authorized the end of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and defended the resumption of the flow of oil through the region.
The official signing of the agreement is scheduled for Friday (19), in Switzerland. Until then, the Iranian government says it will begin to apply the ceasefire, but the full implementation of the pact will depend on the formalization of the document.
Although the final text has not yet been released, information released by authorities and the press indicates that the agreement should include the gradual lifting of some sanctions against Iran and a commitment to maintain negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
Discussions on this topic are expected to continue for the next 60 days.
