World Cup: Mexico City suspends classes and adopts home office

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, issued this Tuesday (9) a decree ordering federal public employees in the capital to work from home on June 11 and suspending classes in schools to alleviate traffic during the opening events of the World Cup.

The decree aims to improve urban mobility and road safety, as Mexico City will host the opening match of the World Cup and side events on Thursday.

The opening events are expected to attract a significant number of visitors.

Mexican federal agencies must implement remote work arrangements for employees based in Mexico City, with exceptions for essential services, including health, security, critical infrastructure and World Cup operations.

Schools from preschool to university, both public and private, will be closed during the day, according to the decree.

The government also encouraged private companies to adopt similar remote work measures.
