World Cup atmosphere inspires exhibition on National Team shirts

In a World Cup atmosphere, the Football Museum, in São Paulo, opened an exhibition at the end of May that recalls the timeline behind the famous yellow shirt worn by the Brazilian Football Team. "Hopscotch" brings together 18 original uniforms, used by the team in tournaments from 1958 to 2022.

The exhibition begins by reporting Brazil's defeat against Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup, inside Maracanã, which became known as "Maracanaço". During the 2-1 defeat, Brazil played in the traditional white uniform, which was rejected after the match. With the aim of regaining the love for the shirt, a competition to propose new uniforms was opened by writer and journalist Aldyr Schlee.

This is how the well-known hopscotch appeared, known for its golden yellow, green details and blue shorts, which refer to the country's flag. The exhibition also features documents and images that prove the birth of one of football's best-known trademarks.

In another section, shirts from different eras were displayed, donated by collectors and belonging to the museum's own collection. There are those that were actually used by the players on the field, called "sweated", those used only by those called up, but who remained on the bench, and those that were only taken to the tournament, but did not make it into the matches,

Shirts of players who played for Brazil in the World Cup, such as Didi, Sócrates, Rivellino, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Vinícius Jr., are among the collection on display. The highlight is a shirt worn by Pelé in the 1970 World Cup final, considered one of the team's greatest performances in history, champion of the edition.
