World Cup: Arias decides, Colombia beats Ghana and is last classified in the round of 16

Colombia beat Ghana 1-0 this Friday (3), in Kansas, and secured the last place in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

Jhon Arias, at the 14-minute mark, found the back of the net and decided Colombia's classification for the next stage of the tournament. This was the Palmeiras midfielder's seventh goal with the national team shirt, the fourth in 2026 alone.

Now, with the result achieved at Arrowhead Stadium, Colombia advanced to face Switzerland, who eliminated Algeria. The clash takes place next Tuesday (7), at 5pm (Brasília time), at BC Place, in Vancouver, Canada.

How was the match?
In the first minute of the match, Ghana faced danger with midfielder Thomas Partey, with a shot to the right of the opponent's goal. Then, at 14, center forward Luis Suárez reached the baseline and crossed at the second post. Midfielder Jhon Arias appeared free and hit the corner to score in favor of Colombia.

After the goal, the Colombians grew on the field and started to put pressure on the African team. At the 20-minute mark, winger Luis Díaz took a risk from outside the box and the attempt ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

In the 39th minute, midfielder Gustavo Puerta made a pass, the Ghanaian defense was unable to clear it and Díaz shot wide. Afterwards, striker Iñaki Williams took a well-placed shot and sent it wide of the goal defended by the South Americans.

In stoppage time, full-back Daniel Muñoz crossed to the other full-back, Johan Mojica, who headed the ball and saw Ati-Zigi perform a miracle. Shortly after the break, midfielder Richard Ríos, who came off the bench, hit a cross and missed the target.

In the 10th minute, Puerta received the ball freely and finished for a great save by the Ghana goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, Díaz found the net, but the referee ruled the shot offside.

Díaz had another great opportunity at the 13-minute mark, when, free in the area, he shot over Ati-Zigi. Needing a result, the African team began to attack more and found it difficult to threaten their rival.

Colombia, in turn, abused counterattacks and missed some chances to seal the victory. Even so, the Cafeteros finished the duel 1-0 and secured their place in the round of 16 of the World Cup.
