World Book Day is celebrated at a bookstore night event
International Book Day is celebrated this Thursday (23), when the first edition of "Bookshop Night" takes place. The collective event, organized by Mapa das Livrarias de Rua, is inspired by similar actions around the world, such as Noche de las Librerías, in Buenos Aires, and La Noche de los Libros, in Madrid.
The program will be held simultaneously, starting at 6pm, in several states in Brazil, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina. Activities include launches, readings, musical performances, storytelling, soirees and even pajama parties.
The idea is to encourage the public to visit bookstores and discover spaces they don't yet frequent. Currently, many of these establishments act as small cultural centers.
