Woman rescued from slavery-like work after 50 years
A 62-year-old domestic worker, who went through conditions similar to slavery after more than 50 years of working for the same family, in Fortaleza, was rescued in an action organized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Labor credits exceed R$1.5 million.
The operation had the support of the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT), the Federal Police (PF) and the Secretariat for Human Rights of Ceará (CRDH/SEDIH-CE).
The MTE points out that the worker did not have regular remuneration, financial autonomy or educational and patrimonial opportunities. While employers studied, became professional, built assets and formed their own families, the worker remained illiterate and economically dependent.
The worker was registered in the Single Registry and received benefits from the Bolsa Família Program, worth R$600.00 per month. However, the withdrawals were made by the employer, who passed on part of the amount to the employee.
He had to start working at the age of 7
According to findings, the worker arrived at her employer family's residence in 1971, when she was just seven years old. Since then, he began to carry out domestic activities, initially alongside his sister, while the family's children attended school and had access to formal education.
After her mother's death, she remained in the family nucleus, and was reportedly "handed over" by her mother to one of the former employer's daughters. From then on, he had to work with several generations of the family over the decades.
In 1982, she moved to live with a daughter of her former boss when she started a new family, being responsible for domestic activities and raising the couple's three children.
In 2014, she was taken to another residence, starting to care for the next generation of the family, combining domestic activities with the daily care of the children.
Thus, this relationship spanned three generations of the same family, always without interruption in activities.

Compensation
Current employers recognized the employment relationship only in relation to the period starting on July 21, 2014, corresponding to the last residence where the worker provided services.
The Labor Tax Audit estimated that, considering unpaid wages, vacations, 13th salary, FGTS, severance pay and overtime resulting from the systematic suppression of weekly rest periods, labor credits exceed R$1.5 million.
In addition, a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) was signed through which employers assumed obligations aimed at the worker's social protection, such as: R$50,000 as severance pay, the acquisition of a residential property in favor of the worker for a minimum value of R$150,000, the funding of social security contributions until retirement and financial supplementation of up to R$12,000 if she turns 64 without access to social security benefit.
