A woman would have lived for more than a year with her own mother's corpse inside her home, in the city of Trofa, in Portugal, until she herself died, supposedly by suicide, according to a local newspaper.

The two were found this week by the PJ (Judicial Police) of Porto, after searches carried out in the house where they lived alone. Neighbors raised alarms worried about the disappearance of the two.

According to the first elements of the investigation, Adelaide Sousa, aged 87, died between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, after falling in the hall of the house, close to the entrance to the living room. The body was never removed and remained in place, where it ended up reduced to a skeleton.

The daughter, Ângela Pinho, aged 62, who suffered from mental disorders and had a conflictual relationship with her mother, would have continued living in the house without asking for help. She stopped being seen by her neighbors at the end of 2025 and is suspected of having committed suicide around that time.

Her body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found on a bed in a room located a few meters from the place where her mother's body remained. The police rule out the possibility of homicide.

The lack of movement in the house began to raise suspicions among neighbors.

Some people found it strange that no one went out to put out the trash or receive bread, while others remember that Angela sometimes said that her mother was bedridden and, on other occasions, stated that she had been admitted to a nursing home.

After a new complaint was filed in April, the investigation was transferred to the Porto PJ Missing Persons Brigade, which found the two bodies. A scenario that left the neighborhood in shock, described by one resident as something she had "never" seen in her life.
