Woman dies after recording video about lack of care at UPA in MG
A 32-year-old woman died last Sunday (7) at the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) of Justinópolis, in Ribeirão das Neves, Minas Gerais, after recording a video reporting problems with care. Relatives of the woman, identified as Brenda Larissa Maia, suspect medical negligence.
According to the police report, Brenda had fibromyalgia and heart disease, and was admitted to the UPA in the early afternoon of Saturday (6) after feeling severe chest pain.
Around 1:30 am on Sunday, the woman sent videos to her family showing several empty offices, with no doctors available for care. See below:

Brenda's brother, Hudson Lucas Maia, said that she was in a treatment room, connected to oxygen, and left without anyone seeing her. "He left the room, started filming, because she was asking for help. And he started filming, going from room to room of doctors and there was no one. And according to reports, the staff were at rest time, they were sleeping, and that's why there was no one, even with the UPA full", reported the brother.
Brenda's mother, identified as Sônia, also reported that she had received a message from her daughter during the night, around 10pm, saying that her condition had worsened.
Sônia received a call about her daughter's death at 4:45 am and went to the UPA accompanied by Hudson, where an employee informed her that her daughter fell to the floor and died after recording the videos.
One of the doctors showed the mother a death certificate, saying that the cause of death was pulmonary embolism. However, after being questioned about the videos recorded by Brenda, the same doctor reportedly said that that was not the correct document.
The family members also reported that they received contradictory information from officials about the body removal procedures, and that, finally, they were recommended to file a police report by a member of the medical team.
Regarding her sister's health status, Hudson reported that she had a cardiological examination, which showed that she was no longer well when she was admitted to the unit. However, she still did not receive immediate care.
"My mom was even with her at the time, and she didn't even go to an emergency room, they claim she was in a red room, but no, she was in the Emergency Room, sitting with so many people outside too," said Hudson.
He also states that another person died at a time close to Brenda, and that there were no doctors available at the location.
CNN Brasil is trying to contact the Civil Police of Minas Gerais and the Municipal Health Department of Ribeirão das Neves. The space remains open.
