Woman arrested after leaving children at home to go to a bar in GO
A woman was arrested on Wednesday night (1st) after leaving her children unattended to go to a drinks distributor in Cidade Oeste, in Goiás.
According to the city's Metropolitan Civil Guard, the guardianship council was contacted by third parties, who, after confirming a situation of abandonment of an incapacitated person, began the search for the mother.
The woman was reportedly identified by one of her children during searches carried out by the competent authorities, according to CNN Brasil's investigation.
At the residence, GCM found the children's father, who had reportedly had a psychotic episode and was subsequently taken to a hospital.
It was at that moment, according to the institution, that the woman left the house towards the bar, leaving her children unaccompanied by a conscious guardian.
The suspect was arrested in the act and taken to the Luziânia Police Station. The case was registered as abandonment of an incapacitated person.
The children were welcomed by family members after receiving protection measures adopted by the guardianship council.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that they opened a police investigation and the case remains under investigation at the Cidade Oeste Police Station.
Abandonment of an incapable person
According to the Federal Court, abandoning a person incapable of defending themselves against possible risks resulting from the practice and who, therefore, is under the care or authority of a third party, for any reason, is considered a crime.
The penalty can be calculated from six months to three years of detention.
If there are signs of serious bodily injury, the penalty increases to one to five years of imprisonment. If abandonment results in death, the person can be sentenced to four to twelve years in prison.
When the victim is a newborn, the sentence may result from six months to six years of detention or imprisonment, depending on the severity of the case.
