Egypt began its preparations for the World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Russia, this Thursday (28), in a friendly played in Cairo. The team's main star, Mohamed Salah was rested from the match.

The Egyptian winning goal was scored by Mostafa Ziko, with a header, in the 20th minute of the second half. The team had Omar Marmoush among the starters and also celebrated the return of defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim, who plays in Ligue 1, after a long period away due to injury. In total, the coach made 10 changes during the match.

Salah, who only returned to the national team on Wednesday (27) after an emotional farewell to Liverpool last weekend, was already expected to be absent for the friendly.

Egypt will also play another preparatory friendly against Brazil, in Cleveland, on June 6th, before their World Cup Group G debut against Belgium, in Seattle, on June 15th.
