With a new album, Os Garotin warns that they are pop: 'If Anitta said it, who's going to say no?'

The Garotin release "Força da Juventude", the trio's second studio album, this Thursday (14). The album follows the successful "Os Garotin de São Gonçalo", doubling down on the funk and soul that consolidated them. (And they reinforce: it's pop music.)
With a great cast, "Força da Juventude" includes appearances by Marina Sena, BK', Liniker, Lenine and Arthur Verocai. But above all, it's very Os Garotin: the album plays with this "boyishness" of musicians, who don't take themselves too seriously - according to them, they "will be 80 years old and still going to be little girls", but with responsibility. "We cannot omit ourselves, let this energy that we have pass by. This name 'Força da Juventude' is very strong for us as a responsibility. It is the thing of being responsible, but not taking ourselves seriously, not thinking that we are the center of the world. Feat with Anitta and response to criticism
On the trio's first album, Os Garotin already sang about a woman "pique Anitta". Years later, in 2026, they appear on her own album, with the partnership "Caso de Amor".
The meeting between the artists took place when Os Garotin were invited to the composition "camp" at Anitta's house, for the album "Equilibrivm".
According to Cupertino, "in the middle of the composition, Anitta began to see that we were there with her, she began to enjoy the atmosphere" and invited them not only to compose, but also to sing with her.
"Anitta is really the boss of the dance, man. When we're with her, it's a class", says Leo.
"It's great to be part of the curation of what Anitta considers today, what Brazilian pop music is. Marina Sena, Liniker... She looked at Brazilian music and said: 'I want these people here'. And for us to be part of this curation of Brazil's greatest artist in the world, it's an honor."

The boys also say that, when they won the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album in the Portuguese Language, they were heavily criticized because "they wouldn't be pop". They competed with Luísa Sonza ("Escândalo Íntimo"), Jão ("Super"), Iza ("Afrodhit") and Melly ("Amaríssima").
Therefore, the feat with Anitta would be yet another consolidation that Os Garotin are pop, yes, sir. People have to swallow it, because Os Garotin is pop. Anitta said it's pop, who's going to say it isn't? If Anitta said it is, if I were you, I'd keep quiet."
"This subject leaves us a little stressed. Because the person who said this to me, I literally give her shit. I don't even hear anything from that person. That person, for me, doesn't even exist. Then the fan base came... 'Ah, because Garotin aren't pop'. Our sound is more cool. Wow, it's a cool little pop style, you know?"
Was it an artist who said that about them? "You can't even say he's an artist," Léo responds, debating who he could be.
During the interview, Léo even showed the award on the screen. "Look at what's written here: Os Garotin, contemporary pop. Yeah, whoever said that didn't win [the Grammy] this year."
Lenine 'daddy' and timeless Verocai
"Força da Juventude" has big people alongside Os Garotin. But one of the songs that stands out the most is "Soul Brasileiro", a partnership with Lenine and the great mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda.
The song mentions "Jack Soul Brasileiro", a hit from Pernambuco, and is a soul with a samba feel, or vice versa.

The Garotin consider Lenine a "god of rhythm", but say that it was their idol who sought them out.
"We were at the airport. Then his son looked at us and said: 'Oops, my dad wants to talk to you. My dad wants to talk to you'. How cool, out of the blue, right? It's not every day that There's a Lenin wanting to talk to you."
The invitation came to perform at Lenin's tribute at Marco Zero, in Pernambuco. But the "damn coincidence", in their words, is that they were already preparing a song inspired by Pernambuco, which had already been recorded. It was easy to invite Lenine to join the album.
"There's nothing more Brazilian than the Northeast, right? So it's a very strong flavor for the music that painted a lot. And this combination is from the Northeast with us there, from our different accents singing the song, I think it gave even more meaning to 'Brazilian soul'", says Cupertino.
At the end of the album, another medallion: Arthur Verocai commands the orchestra for "Uma Noite Só", the most robust track on the album. The musicians say that Verocai praised the "harmonic unpredictability" of the song, which does not have a defined tone and is cyclical, like a mantra.

The Garotins are not the first, nor the last to speak about Verocai. The composer and conductor, active since the 60s, has become a staple among artists of the new generation - who quote, sample or invite him to participate in their work.
For Os Garotin, ensuring that the musician has his work revisited is almost a mission: "If they didn't pay attention back then, oops, wait a minute."
"The timelessness of Verocai's music, if you didn't pay attention back then, oops, wait a minute. So now, nothing is going to go unnoticed, you know? What's really cool, what's good, doesn't go unnoticed. The song comes to the world on a mission, and that purpose will be fulfilled. And man, we can call Verocai for our album and collaborate so that more people will listen to his records, wow..."
