Wiretaps found in RJ's interim governor's office

Materials used in wiretapping, which are normally used to record audio, were located inside the office of the interim governor of Rio de Janeiro, judge Ricardo Couto.

According to the Government Secretariat of State, the material was found during a routine sweep carried out in the governor's office, when agents from the Institutional Security Office identified the equipment used in bugging.

Also according to the State Secretariat of Government, the material - which is apparently old and ineffective - was removed by agents. No further details were clarified as to what type of material was found or when they were found.

The office where the materials were found is inside the Guanabara Palace, headquarters of the government of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

An internal investigation aims to discover the origin of the devices and how they ended up in the governor's office. Institutional Security also wants to know if the material was already in the room before interim governor Ricardo Couto took over the State of Rio or if the materials were placed recently.

Judge Ricardo Couto took over the interim government of the state of Rio de Janeiro at the end of March, following the resignation of Cláudio Castro. He frequents the Guanabara Palace to hold some institutional meetings, but maintains his routine of dispatches directly from the Rio Court of Justice.
