Will "The Mandalorian" have a 4th season after the movie? Director explains decision

"The Mandalorian and Grogu" marks the return of the Star Wars universe to cinemas. Scheduled to premiere this Thursday (21) in Brazilian cinemas, Pedro Pascal returns to the role of bounty hunter Din Djarin, alongside little Grogu - popularly known as Baby Yoda. The feature film is a continuation of the events of the series "Mandalorian", which aired in 2023.

Fans began to question whether there would be a new season of the series after the release of the film, considering that the plot was the basis for a possible fourth part of the story. Disney, which owns the rights to the Star Wars Universe, made the decision to turn the rest of the story into a film, ruling out the continuation of the original format.

Director Jon Favreau stated that the decision was made in 2023, during the writers' strike in Hollywood. "Priorities changed in relation to what I had written for the 4th season, before the activities were suspended, and this was left aside, making it necessary to create a new script", he revealed. He states that the team wanted to transform the story into a more independent experience, which did not depend on previous seasons to entertain the audience.

"The idea is to be understandable, so that even if a fan brought someone who didn't know the story, that person would still have fun," added the director.
