Daveigh Chase, the actress in the horror film The Ring who crawled out of a television, and voice actress for the girl Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, has died aged 35.
Chase, who also starred in the television drama Immense Love, died of sepsis after an episode of meningitis in a Los Angeles hospital, her manager John Ryan Jr confirmed to BBC News on Wednesday (17/06).
Ryan said Chase had been admitted for malnutrition before her death.
The former child actress began acting at age 4, landing her first Hollywood job at age 7, but retired from full-time acting in 2015, he said.

"She was the best. She loved cats. She worked with us on cat rescues. She was very private," said Ryan, her friend and manager for 15 years, noting that Chase often retreated to her Las Vegas home for years at a time and turned down big studio films to do independent projects.
"She wasn't very Hollywood," he said. "She would rather eat at Bob's Big Boy and go home with her cats. She loved acting, but she didn't like the atmosphere of fame." Hart.

She was discovered by Hollywood in 2001, when she appeared as Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko and later played the main character's sister in the 2009 film S Darko.
Chase was immortalized on film in 2002 as Samara Morgan, the long-haired ghost who crawls out of the television - in the horror film The Ring - an American remake of the Japanese classic about a videotape that makes people die after watching it.
She won an MTV Movie Award for best villain in 2003 for her portrayal of the frightening, demon-like character who crawls on her hands and feet before killing her victims.
Chase said she had fun playing such a character evil.
"It's not a typical character. They usually look for a happy, carefree child, but Samara was a very interesting character to play. I just used my own voice and gave her a scary touch," she told the Los Angeles Times in 2002.
That same year, she voiced Lilo, the Hawaiian girl who was an Elvis fan in the hit Lilo & Stitch. The role earned her an Annie Award for best voice acting in an animated feature film production, and she continued to voice the character in other productions in the series.
Her resume also includes appearances in the TV dramas Charmed: Young Witches, Doctor's Care and Touched by an Angel. Chase also appeared in 32 episodes of the HBO polygamy drama Immense Love, playing child bride Rhonda Volmer.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chase had a series of legal problems later in life, including being accused of drug possession and driving a stolen car.
