Who else produces oil in Brazil? See the ranking of companies after production is close to a new record

IEA warns of critical phase in the oil market
Oil production in Brazil reached a new milestone. In May, the country produced, on average, 4.3 million barrels per day (bpd), an increase of 16.9% compared to the same month last year.
It was the second highest monthly volume in history, according to data released this Wednesday (1st) by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP). The result was second only to April, when production reached a record of 4.33 million barrels per day.
A large part of this advance was driven by the pre-salt, which accounted for 3.47 million barrels per day, more than 80% of all oil produced in the country in May. The result reinforces the growth trajectory of Brazilian production, after 2025 having closed with a record annual average of 3.77 million barrels per day.
Petrobras leads the ranking with more than 2 million bpd
Among companies, Petrobras remains in the lead with a wide advantage. In May, the state-owned company produced 2.55 million barrels per day, equivalent to around six in every ten barrels extracted in Brazil. Next come Shell, with 415.3 thousand barrels per day, and TotalEnergies, with 209.9 thousand barrels per day.

Gas advances in the annual comparison, but retreats compared to April
Natural gas production also grew compared to a year earlier. There were 206.06 million cubic meters per day in May, an increase of 19.6%. Compared to April, however, there was a slight drop of 0.3%.
Not all the gas produced reaches the market. In May, 60.83 million cubic meters per day were sold. Another part, 120.13 million cubic meters per day, was reinjected into the reservoirs.
In addition, 19.23 million cubic meters per day were consumed on the production platforms themselves, and 5.87 million cubic meters per day were burned during the operation.
Adding oil and natural gas, Brazilian production reached 5.597 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in May.
