WHO chief will go to DR Congo after suspected Ebola cases surpass 900

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq announced that the Director-General of the WHO (World Health Organization), Tedros Adhanom, will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo this Tuesday (26).

"According to the WHO, there are more than 900 suspected cases and 220 suspected deaths linked to Ebola in the DRC," Haq said at a press conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The spokesperson noted that Tedros shared on social media that "WHO and 55 humanitarian partners are present in affected areas, providing essential health services, including treatment for acute malnutrition."

The WHO chief also expressed concern in the publication, stating that work "continues to be hampered by violence and limited access to some of the most remote communities."

Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids from infected people, contaminated materials, and the bodies of those who have died from the disease, making unsafe burials a potential source of transmission of the virus.
