Three of the sons of the late Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prayed next to his body this Sunday morning (5), but not Mojtaba, who succeeded him as supreme leader.

Mostafa, Masoud and Meysam Khamenei were seen mourning the death of their father, as well as that of the other four murdered family members, as their coffins rested in the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran.

Mostafa, 64, is a Shiite cleric and the eldest of the murdered supreme leader's children. His political involvement is limited and he currently does not hold any position in the Iranian government. However, it is considered influential in religious circles.

Masoud, 52, is also a cleric and the third son of the late Khamenei. He heads the Office for the Preservation and Publication of Khamenei's Works, responsible for preserving and promoting the supreme leader's speeches.

According to the website opposing the regime Iranwire, he controls a broad propaganda apparatus, with connections to several media outlets.

Meysam, 48, is the youngest of Khamenei's children and maintains a relatively low public profile compared to his siblings.

He also worked at the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of the Supreme Leader.

Others in attendance on Sunday included Mojtaba's father-in-law, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, and Khamenei's son-in-law, Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani - whose 4-year-old daughter, Zahra, was buried in a small coffin.
