The A350-1000ULR model is manufactured by the European company Airbus and completed its first test flight last Tuesday (2), in a flight lasting almost 4 hours in Toulouse, France.
The aircraft was designed to fly for up to 22 hours straight and surpass the record for the longest direct commercial flight in the world, currently held by Singapore Airlines with an 18-hour flight between Singapore and New York.

The A350-1000ULR (ULR is the acronym in English for "ultra-long range") is a variation of the A350-1000 and can reduce total travel time by up to four hours, according to Qantas.
The aircraft can do this longer flights due to an additional tank with capacity for an additional 20,000 liters of fuel, which increases its autonomy by more than 1,800 km, according to Airbus.
Plane could surpass record for longest flight in the world
The order for the planes is part of the investment called Project Sunrise by Qantas. Delivery was delayed, but the company should receive the first unit in April 2027 - the initial deadline for opening the route was 2025 and had already been postponed to the end of 2026.
The company also ordered another 12 units of the A350-1000, intended for long-distance flights, but with slightly shorter routes.
What the longest flight in the world will be like
Qantas reported in 2025 which, to offer more comfort, will carry up to 238 passengers per flight, down from around 300 seats in the standard version of the aircraft.
The Qantas project includes a wellness zone with options for passengers to stretch their legs, eat and hydrate. In addition, everyone will have access to Wi-Fi during the flight.

The company also said it worked with sleep experts to reduce the effects of jet lag by adopting more appropriate lighting and meal times.
