What the US and Iran said about the agreement that could be signed today

Although the United States and Iran expressed optimism about the proximity of an agreement, they presented different versions of the terms, including the signing date.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday (13) that a deal with Iran "is expected to be signed tomorrow", adding that "immediately after signing, the Strait of Hormuz will be OPEN TO ALL".

He said that "we hope this whole process works quickly, easily and smoothly", but added that if it doesn't work, "we have the definitive alternative".

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a key mediator, said they were "closer to a peace deal than ever before." He said, also on Saturday, that the terms of the possible agreement could be finalized in the "next 24 hours".

However, Iran's military force, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), denied that Tehran would sign an agreement with the US this Sunday (14) and criticized Trump's "unusual insistence."

The IRGC described the timeline as a "test for Iran's negotiating team" and said Trump's announcement comes "despite Iranian negotiators having explicitly stated that the memorandum has not yet been finalized and that the signing on Sunday will definitely not happen."

Following Trump's statements, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday that the signing of the agreement "will not happen tomorrow", according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim.

"The possibility of this happening in the next few days is not ruled out," Baghaei said, according to the Tasnim agency. "However, due to the instability of the other party, we must be cautious with any statements regarding this process."
