Stamp on meat: find out what it means and if it poses risks
Have you ever noticed, when buying a whole piece of pork, that it comes with a stamp? Geraldo da Rosa asked Globo Rural if it is necessary to discard the marked part before consumption.
This stamp is made by the Federal Inspection Service (SIF), of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. It indicates that the food is considered safe, explains Enrico Ortolani, consultant at Globo Rural.
The ink used in the stamp is non-toxic. It is generally made from vegetable dyes, grain alcohol and glycerin. Therefore, it is possible to consume it without risk to health.
