What is misanthropy? Understand the meaning of the word that appeared in a false Civil Defense alert

The word "misanthropy" caught the attention of thousands of Brazilians after appearing in sound alerts and text messages attributed to the Civil Defense, sent to cell phones in different regions of the country between Friday (19) and Saturday (20).
Until the last update of this report, the authorities had not yet reported what caused the shooting. Bodies such as the Civil Defense of Paraná and the Civil Defense of São Paulo stated that they did not send the messages and said that they were investigating the origin of the alert with Anatel, responsible for the technology used in the system.
But, after all, what does "misanthropy" mean?
According to the Michaelis dictionary, misanthropy is the quality of someone who feels aversion, distrust or rejection of humanity. The word can also be used to describe a tendency towards social isolation or a state of deep sadness and melancholy.
In practice, a person considered a misanthrope is one who avoids social interaction or shows disbelief towards other people. This does not necessarily mean that she hates everyone around her, but it may indicate difficulty in social connection or a pessimistic view of human nature.
The use of the word in a Civil Defense alert drew attention precisely because it was not related to weather phenomena, natural disasters or emergency situations, which increased confusion among residents and led to searches for its meaning.
