What is known about the attack by drug dealers that killed a civil police officer in RJ

One civil police officer died and another was shot during a shooting attack carried out by drug dealers in Favela do Muquiço, in Guadalupe, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The case happened on the morning of this Wednesday (8).

The agents were rescued and taken to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital. One of them succumbed to his injuries and the other is in stable health and remains under medical evaluation.

The confrontation
The Civil Police reported that agents from the DHBF (Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station) were carrying out investigations in the region when they were attacked while traveling along Avenida Brasil.

Also according to the corporation, a Seppen (Secretary of State for Criminal Police) vehicle, which was passing by the scene, was also the target of shots. DHBF agents who were nearby provided support to their colleagues during the attack.

Impacts of the action
The operation also caused impacts on traffic on Avenida Brasil. According to COR (Rio Operations Center), one lane of the lateral lane and another of the central lane, towards the Center, were closed at the BRT Guadalupe station, causing slowdowns in the section.

In a statement, the corporation stated that attacks against public security agents represent "a direct attack on the State" and highlighted that it will continue to act firmly and permanently in the fight against criminal factions and in the repression of crime.
