A whale was saved by the CBMERJ (Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro) after becoming trapped in a fishing net on Costazul beach, in Rio das Ostras (RJ), this Sunday morning (7).

Firefighters from the Military Fire Detachment (DBM 2/9 - Rio das Ostras) report that, upon arriving at the scene, they found that the whale was between six and seven meters long.

She was trapped in a fishing net, which compromised the animal's movement, putting her at risk.

In a video published by Rio das Ostras city hall, part of the process is reported. Watch the video:

It was informed by CBMERJ that for the operation it was necessary to use a watercraft and a BIR (Inflatable Rescue Boat), for direct military action at sea.

Due to the size of the whale and its conditions, the action was considered by the team to be highly complex, requiring specialized techniques. They also report that, during the removal of the net, they were dragged by the movement of the animal.

After the complete removal of the net, the lifeboat resumed its locomotion capacity and returned to the sea, without the need for intervention.

The Fire Department states that the net was collected and was under the responsibility of the environmental agencies responsible for the incident.
