Amid increasing debates about the constant evolution of Artificial Intelligence tools, in an interview with CNN, Lila Ibrahim, global director of operations at Google, argued that the human element is being left aside in discussions about technologies.

According to the expert, currently, the main issue is that discussions are focusing excessively on technical resources and capabilities, ignoring the social influence of the mechanisms.

During the conversation with presenter Mari Palma, Ibrahim highlighted that, despite decades of experience as an engineer and technologist, her vision goes beyond the technical capabilities of AI.

"This is not just about technology and capabilities. It is essential that the development of artificial intelligence happens in partnership with different communities, so that innovation is developed with people and for people, and not about people", he stated.

Absent human element and uncertain future
According to Lila, the discussion around AI still fails to focus too much on features and abilities without addressing the deeper issues, including the impact on users' daily lives, the reasons behind the creations and the ways of implementing these tools.

"Often we're talking about the resource and the capability without talking about the why and the how," she highlighted during the conversation.

The executive also recognized and reinforced that the future of artificial intelligence is unpredictable. "We don't know what the future will be like. There are many people with many different types of predictions, but they are really just predictions," he declared.

Although the consequences of the situation are not calculable, the executive demonstrated optimism by declaring that humanity has the power to shape this path - as long as it does so collaboratively. For her, the positive control and use of AI tools depend on "a group and not just one company or country".
