"We don't always agree," says Netanyahu about Trump after Iran deal

Hours after almost every other Israeli official spoke out about the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu finally spoke out on the matter, stating that he and US President Donald Trump "don't always see eye to eye".

In a press conference this Monday (15), Netanyahu said that this type of disagreement "happens even in the best families".

"President Trump and I don't always see eye to eye," Netanyahu said.

"He is the president of the United States and I am the prime minister of Israel. I am responsible for Israel's security interests and this needs to be done wisely," the prime minister added.

In his opening remarks, Netanyahu avoided addressing the deal directly and focused on what he described as the great achievements of Israel's campaigns against Iran and across the Middle East.

"With or without a deal, Iran will not have nuclear weapons - not today, not tomorrow. As long as I am prime minister of Israel, this will not happen," he said.

"The fight is not over [...] We will need to remain vigilant, strong and determined to defend ourselves as necessary," he added.

Netanyahu also made clear that Israel does not intend to withdraw from southern Lebanon, the Gaza Strip or Syria.

"We will remain in the safe zones for as long as necessary to defend our country," he said.

Responding to questions from journalists, he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the agreement itself.

"We still don't know what the agreement will be," he said.

When asked whether the deal was reached against his will, Netanyahu emphasized his long-standing relationship with Trump.

"Acting wisely requires a lot of experience and deep knowledge of the American scenario. I believe I am doing this in the best way possible", he concluded.
