The Federal Reserve released this Wednesday (17) a simple and direct statement of 132 words, responding to the declared desire of the new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, for the Central Bank of the United States to communicate less.

At the previous meeting - the last under the chairmanship of Jerome Powell - the Fed released a 314-word statement.

The Fed maintained interest rates in the United States between 3.5% and 3.75%, in a unanimous vote, according to the decision announced this Wednesday (17). The result was widely expected and represents the fourth consecutive meeting of the Fomc (Federal Open Market Committee) with unchanged rates.

The statement states that members voted unanimously (as usual), the Fed maintained the benchmark interest rate and offered four brief comments on the economy. The Fed highlighted that the US economy is growing despite the uncertainty caused by the war with Iran, productivity and investment are showing strong growth, the job market is keeping pace with population growth, and inflation remains high due to supply shocks in energy and other sectors.

"The committee will ensure price stability," the statement concludes.

Warsh said the Fed's overcommunication has led to misinterpretations, particularly regarding forecasts and projections, which it seeks to reduce.
