War affects tourism in the Middle East and leaves Dubai streets empty
The conflict in the Middle East has also impacted tourism in the region.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the sector loses around US$600 million per day - the equivalent of approximately R$3 billion - with the drop in visitor spending.
In Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, the scenario already reflects the effects of the crisis. From the top of one of the city's main observatories, it is possible to see commercial areas with reduced traffic. In shopping malls and markets, corridors that were once full now appear almost empty.
A store specializing in serving Brazilians, managed by Iranians who speak Portuguese, also feels the drop in traffic. Before the conflict, the space received around 30 Brazilians per day. Now, customers are rare. The owners say they are worried about expenses and hope for an end to the tensions.
Tourist attractions also register low demand. A mosque that offers guided tours has received fewer visitors in recent weeks.

Amidst the scenario of insecurity, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense began to release, daily, reports on missiles and drones coming from Iran that are intercepted in the country.

To try to mitigate the impacts, companies in the sector have invested in promotions. Shops, hotels and restaurants offer discounts, mainly aimed at the local public. In a building in the city, a swimming pool on the 50th floor even distributed 10,000 free tickets.
Even in the face of uncertainty, residents try to maintain their routine amid this delicate moment.
